I am wondering why there hasn’t been any news about this, other than some devices now becoming available supporting it.

See:

http://www.pepperl-fuchs.us/cps/rde/xchg/usa/hs.xsl/202_module.htm

Is this a new standard which will do away with the need for special ASI 30V supplies?

Please tell me more.

Regards

Dear MCR,

indeed there has not been a lot of news about AS-i Power 24V. The main reason for this is that this technology is focused on a very particular kind of application, namely small applications. By using this technology you have some limitation in comparison the the standard AS-i power supply, for example you can only reach 50m maximum cable length.

If your application is suitable for this technology then you might be able to use it. If not you can keep on using the AS-i power supply without any disadvantage. The AS-i power supplies will still be available, since most of the application go over the 50m line length.

You can read more information about AS-i Power 24V under this link:

If you have any further questions do not hesitate in asking.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for your prompt reply, Fabricio.

Many of our machines are small therefore this technology is relevant to us and gives me more technical, and most importantly financial, justification for using ASI and ASI-SAW.

I wouldn’t have known about it if it wasn’t for a Pepperl and Fuchs sales leaflet.  Perhaps it needs to be higher profile.
