What happens if a shielded twisted pair is used for an As-i network? Does it cause communication issues or limit the maximum allowable segment lenght?

Where and how should the shield wire be connected?

Hi io_learner
(Sorry my response on the 10th appears not to have been posted)
This is a UK forum. So I will be brief on your questions.

Yes you will have different distances using any cable other than specification. I would also be concerened about the CSA of the conductors, TP tends to be lower.

AS-interface is not designed for screened twisted pair cable.

No screen points are offered as it is not required within the design specification.

Simply use the correct cable as per the specification.
Attend one of the installer’s courses for good practise and correct instalation procedures.
See under training on our WEB site.

I am also worried about the connectors and the right interface used in your kind of network. Yes you can use twisted pair wires for your network but as he said please try to use the appropriate cables and the interfaces for the networks. It can work but problems related to the maintenance can be raised.
